9/6: SPARSE runs 2nd
SPARSE broke well and settled towards the back of the field while two wide around the first turn. He dropped further back down the backstretch as he trailed by 24 and 3/4 lengths. Michael Baze, filling in for a sick Inez Karlsson, commenced his rally heading into the second turn. SPARSE split horse late in the turn and angled out towards the middle of the stretch where he finished with a swift rally while running out of stretch to catch the winner, Malibu Vice, as he finished 2nd, defeated by 1/2 length.

8/19: SPARSE runs 5th
SPARSE broke slow and was angled over to the rail while trailing the field into the first turn by 12 1/4 lengths. He avoided trouble in the first turn as two horses went down. SPARSE gradually reduced that margin to 7 1/4 lengths down the backstretch and into the second turn. Karlsson sent him two wide around the turn and he closed with a mild rally down the middle of the stretch to run 5th, defeated by 1 3/4 lengths.
